Cindy Libert, M.D., Functional Medicine Physician & Founder of The Joy Prescription

My passion is helping people transform their health and reach their full potential. I love people and enjoy spending time learning their stories. My goal is to identify the root cause of symptoms, and use the most gentle, natural solutions to bring the body back into balance. I take a holistic, systems biology approach, utilizing the best of modern medical diagnostics/treatments, as well as natural remedies. I am a life-long learner and student of functional medicine, Scripture, neuroscience, medical herbalism, epigenetics and using food as medicine.

My areas of special interest include: optimizing mood and brain function, the gut microbiome, cardiometabolic health, detoxification, thyroid, adrenal and sex hormone balance. I’m a member of the North Carolina Integrative Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Christian Medical & Dental Associations.

I enjoy jogging, hiking, cooking, growing culinary/medicinal herbs and spending time in nature. I live near Asheville, North Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains with my husband and three precious daughters, my greatest teachers. It would be my joy and pleasure to help you recover from mood disorders, build resilience and live life to the fullest through the Joy Prescription community!

Brooke Jack, Director of Health Education, The Joy Prescription

In early childhood, my first career aspiration was that of a schoolteacher.  Coming from a long line of educators, there were always teachable moments to be had– even grocery store visits involved lessons in accounting and economics!  Through my family’s influence, I developed a passion for teaching and leading others. One of my greatest joys is to see people discover and unlock their potential to live whole, energized, and purposeful lives.

After getting to know Dr. Libert, I immediately connected with her whole-person approach to medicine and her commitment to empower others to achieve optimal health for joyful living. Did I mention that her passion is contagious? I am humbled and delighted to be part of the Caring for the Body team, helping to educate others about Dr. Libert’s highly effective and rewarding approach to health.

Before I took a leap of faith to start a creative design and communications business, I worked as an administrator and surgery coordinator at a pediatric dental office. Presently, I also have the great privilege of pastoring a growing church in Asheville with my husband and in-laws. I oversee the children’s ministries, lead a women’s connect group, and assist with administrative duties and ministry development. I love diversity and am driven by challenges, so it seems that both my work opportunities and ministry involvement keep me stimulated and satisfied in that sense!

I earned a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA and am enrolled in a correspondence Bible school. I enjoy hiking, golfing, event planning, baking, college football (Go Dawgs!), and writing. I aspire to one day write children’s books that, as you might guess, provide teachable moments! I am a proud mother of three wonderful children and four fur-babies, all of whom delight in being my “office assistants” and inspire me to pause and take pleasure in the simple joys of life!
